Blue Horizon World Corporate Golf Challenge Thailand 2018

The World Corporate Golf Challenge Thailand swung back into action in February 2018 with a new title sponsor Blue Horizon Developments.

In 2018 we had over 150 corporate teams participate in the event in 6 qualifiers all over Thailand. This was over double the amount of teams that participated in 2017. The event culminated with 19 teams battling it out at the Thailand National final at Laguna Golf Phuket. The winners would have the honour of representing Thailand at the world final in Cascais Portugal.

The final was very closely contested with 5 teams within 2 points of the winning score, in the end Prime Real Estate birdies the last hole to win on count back with a score of 44 points.

The World Final - Cascais, Portugal

Team Thailand (Paul Judge and Pim Surintarangoul) arrived early in Cascais Portugal, allowing them to get in a few early practice rounds before the other world finalists arrived.

On day one saw Thailand paired with the Czech Republic and got off to solid start scoring 65 points lying in joint 3rd place behind China on 68 points and Portugal the home team and favourites on 73 points.

Day two with Thailand eight points behind leaders Portugal, they knew they had to get off to a fast start and they came out flying, by the 16th hole Thailand were in the lead. Coming down the 18th the team knew they would probably need four points to clinch it, Paul Judge green side in three shots played an unbelievable shot from the waste bunker and holed the putt for his five securing his two points for the team which would prove vital.

China now out the picture after a bad 17th hole, Portugal needing a birdie and par down the last to tie, this proved too much and meant that Thailand had overcame an eight point deficit to win the World Corporate Golf Challenge Final by two points. Their remarkable score of 80 stableford points as pair, a score never been shot before in 25 years of the WCGC finals

Paul Judge part of Thailand winning team said, ‘This has been a truly unbelievable experience, we never thought after being eight shots behind after day one we would be WCGC Champions, Chris Watson our licensee jokingly  this morning go out there and get 80 points and we might win it.’  Paul went on to say ‘ Firstly I have to thank my playing partner Pim who was unbelievable all weekend. I also have to thank Fore Management and Chris Watson the Thailand Licensee for giving this opportunity to attend such an amazing event, also Blue Horzion Developments Thailand’s title sponsor and Thai Airways for flying us here all the way from Thailand.
